Asia Society and the College Board are pleased to announce the 5th annual National Chinese Language Conference. This year's NCLC will focus on the State of the Field and strategies to ensure student proficiency, program sustainability, and much more!

With a wide offering of preconference events and a rich conference program, NCLC is the premier conference dedicated to the teaching and learning of Chinese language and culture. Last year, 1,200 participants from across K–16 education came together to share best practices in technology, program development, teacher training, and sustainable partnerships.

The success of the National Chinese Language Conference is built upon the innovation, best practices, and shared experiences of educators and administrators in the field. A fun event for the whole family! Activity tables for preschool and elementary age children along with performances from Twin Cities dance troupes. Enjoy food from Mandarin Yang and Beijing Restaurant. Minnetonka's Chinese Immersion students from kindergarten to fifth grade will also perform. Public invited.

Derek Yang: A Chinese teacher making a difference

Derek Yang (杨德诚 yáng dé chéng, surname, kind, sincere) has been a Chinese language teacher in both China and the United States for many years. He has been a Middle School Chinese language teacher at Breck School in Golden Valley for the last 18 years.

Hangzhou Foreign Language School officials visit Minnesota Department of Education

Over the years, the Minnetonka School District and Minnesota have had a relationship and teacher agreement with Hangzhou Foreign language school, located about 108.5 miles southwest of Shanghai, China. On October 27th, a delegation of six education officials from China visited the Minnesota Department of Education to renew the Minnesota-China Teacher Exchange Program Agreement. The success of the Teacher Exchange Program over the last 25+ years provided the foundation for Minnetonka to become the state's leader in Mandarin Chinese Education at the K-12 level.

Yinghua Academy offers free conversational Chinese classes for students in grades 6-8

Yinghua Academy is offering two sessions of FREE beginning conversational Chinese language classes for students from any Minnesota school currently enrolled in grades 6-8.  Funding for this program is through the Foreign Language Assistance Program (FLAP) grant of the US Department of Education.
